Character Rename Tutorial

Has your character evolved to where their current identity just doesn’t seem to match anymore? Do you have a slick new costume scheme and want a brand new name to match?  Well now you can get that name you’ve always wanted!

Below is a step by step tutorial to using the Character Rename service.

  1. Log in to the game using your City of Heroes account.
  1. Select the server on which the character you want is located.
  1. You will now see the character selection screen.
  1. Select the character you wish to rename.
  1. At the bottom of the screen you will see two buttons – Buy Server Transfer and Buy Rename Token.

NOTE – to ensure you are able to change your character name to the name you would like, please use the Check Name feature by clicking the Check Name button in the lower right of the character selection screen.

This will open a window that will allow you to search for possible names.

Enter the character name you would like to check for availablity and click the OK button.

  1. Click the Buy Rename Token button
  1. The Character Rename Warning window will appear.  Please read this before continuing.  To continue, click the OK button or click the CANCEL button to return to the character selection screen and cancel the purchase.
  1. After clicking the OK button, you will be prompted with a Security Authorization window.

If you do not have a “Card on File” for billing purposes with City of Heroes and City of Villains, you will receive the following message:

  1. Enter in your PlayNC account password and click OK to continue.  You can click the CANCEL button to cancel the rename and return to the character selection screen.

NOTE – You will only be required to enter your PlayNC password the first time you authorize the use of Card on file.

  1. After clicking the OK button, you will be prompted to confirm the payment for the Character Rename.  Click the Charge My Card button to continue and finalize the character rename.  You can click the Cancel Order button to cancel the rename and return to the character selection screen.
  1. After clicking the Charge My Card button, the transaction is initiated, and you will see the following message.
  1. Once the transaction is completed, you will see a final confirmation message
  1. You can now rename your character by clicking the green Rename Character button or you will be prompted to rename your character when you enter the game.
  1. If you Click the green Rename button:
    1. You will be prompted to enter in the new name you want.  Enter the new name and click the OK button. 
    1. If you attempt to rename your character to a name that is already in use, you will receive the following message:
    1. After successfully entering a new character name, you will receive a confirmation message.
  1. If you click the Enter Paragon City button and rename your character in the game:
    1. You will be prompted to enter the new name you want as soon as you enter the game.  Enter the new name and click the Accept button.
    1. If you attempt to rename your character to a name that is already in use, you will receive the following message:
    1. After successfully entering a new character name, you will receive a confirmation message.
