The Winning Submissions

Best Overall Winner - "8Baller"

What the Judges thought:

"Top-notch production here: professional panel layout, 'cel-shade' filter, cool lettering--the whole 9.  A nice sense of character as well.  Feels like a chapter in a real comic book.  I'll overlook the spelling errors and occasionally awkward dialogue because the rest really shines. Extra props for great panel layouts and by far the best cover."

David Nakayama

"Very nice. Great graphics and panel layout! The story falls a bit at the end where it becomes a little confusing, but very nice."

Marv Wolfman

"In addition to the well laid out art style and nice character development he really sold the city of heroes background and a lot of the elements from the game in the comic."

Matt Miller

Best Action Winner - "Not a Hero"

What the Judges thought:

"I'm of two minds about the 'I am not…' structure. On the one hand, it's clever, poetic, and different, yet it kinda wears thin after a page or two. I appreciate the strong sense of character and the photo tour of Paragon, but I can't rate this as highly as some others, particularly because the unreadable cover taints our first impression."

David Nakayama

"I like this one. Well written. Nice graphics. Nice twist. I think it's well done."

Marv Wolfman

"Good action scenes with very solid story telling. It made you want to get to read to the end and see it all through. "

Best Story Winner - "Strength"

What the Judges thought:

"The best mood piece of the bunch. Excellent sense of the character and his motivations, with a bold Sin City' monochrome style, all rooted firmly in the CoX universe. "

David Nakayama

"Really very nicely drawn. Great graphics. Fairly good story."

Marv Wolfman

"Excellent use of the black and white. Unique style that set itself apart from all the other entries. It’s obvious the author put a lot of effort into each and every frame."
